Bill Bryk was my best friend since we met playing for a Mets minor league team in Batavia NY. Your article brought back so many memories of a truly remarkable and talented guy. Bryk was also the funniest guy I ever met; I still laugh relating stories of our many years together. There will never be another Bill Bryk and thanks for writing such a good article about him.

What a great read, glad you got the chance to enjoy Bryck. I will always be grateful for having him in my life as a great friend, manager as well as a father figure/brother at the same time. Your words about him really pushing for the under dogs in the game are spot on, he is responsible for me enjoying the game for 3 years professionally and playing for him in junior college. Bryck had nicknames for everyone the man was a professional and always be in my heart. Thanks again for writing and sharing your experience with my good friend.

Doug, thanks for the remarks. You reminded me of how many people I’d hear refer to him as “skip” or “skipper.” One of these days I’d love to hear some stories about him as a manager. What was his nickname for you?

Ryan Isaac, I want to thank you for writing such a beautiful article about my nephew Billy Bryk. Yes, I also feel the exact same way. I promise I will never forget him. How could you forget such a gentile giant!

In my opinion he became a legend that every one could follow, again I sincerely want to say thank you!

Thank you, Buck. I agree. He set an example for us all to follow. He cared so much for everyone around him.

Ryan, a truly excellent piece about a guy we both know and love. Billy and I grew up kitty-corner from each other, went to the same parochial grammar school and played baseball until it was dark some 60 years ago. You nailed his career as a "baseball lifer." He scouted and pulled for the underdog because where we grew up on the Southside of Chicago, we were all underdogs. As luck would have it, we both got drafted and got our shot to pursue our dreams. Brykie devoted his life so others could get their "shot". His tryout camps were his legacy. I write this with a heavy heart as we will say goodbye this week to our beloved friend. Rest easy, my brother.

I was at Thornton JC at the time and had just got glasses, well when I walked into practice Bryk did a double take and with his big ol grin says hey there Mr Magoo and that was my new name.
